Nautical Compass (the "Service") is operated by Apex Vision Holdings LLC ("we," "us," or "our"), the operator of the Nautical Compass platform. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and protect your information when you use our website, mobile applications, and services.
We collect information you provide directly — such as your name, email address, mobile phone number, location, company, skills, and application or intake responses — and information collected automatically (device, browser, usage, and interaction data).
We use your information to process applications and intakes, provide and improve the Service, communicate with you about your account and applications, provide customer care, send transactional and service-related messages, and comply with legal obligations.
If you provide a mobile phone number and opt in, we may send you text (SMS) messages. Data we collect for messaging includes your mobile phone number, your SMS opt-in consent, and the content of messages you send to us. We use this data to deliver operational, transactional, and customer-care messages, such as application status updates, appointment and scheduling reminders, account and security notices, intake confirmations, and responses to your support or help requests. Message frequency varies based on your activity and the type of communication.
Message and data rates may apply. You are responsible for any message and data charges imposed by your mobile carrier.
You may opt out of SMS messages at any time by replying STOP to any message. For assistance, reply HELP. Opting out of SMS does not affect other communications, such as email.
We do not share, sell, or provide your mobile phone number or messaging consent data to third parties or affiliates for marketing or promotional purposes. More broadly, we do not sell, rent, share, or otherwise provide your mobile phone number, SMS opt-in data, or messaging consent information to third parties or affiliates for their marketing or promotional purposes. This protection specifically covers your mobile phone information, SMS opt-in data, and messaging consent — we do not share these with third parties or affiliates for their marketing use.
We do share mobile phone information with service providers who help us deliver messages on our behalf (such as Twilio for SMS delivery) and as described elsewhere in this policy. Service-provider processing for message delivery is distinct from sharing information for third-party marketing. We may also share information where required by law.
We may share your information with service providers and vendors who perform services on our behalf (such as message delivery and analytics), in response to legal process, to protect rights and safety, and in connection with a business transfer. We do not sell your personal information. This general sharing does not include sharing your mobile phone number or messaging consent data with third parties or affiliates for marketing or promotional purposes — see "We Do Not Sell or Share Your Mobile Messaging Information for Marketing" above for that specific protection.
We retain your information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the Service, and as required by law. We use reasonable administrative, technical, and physical safeguards to protect your information.
When you submit documents through intake, applications, or profile features (such as résumés, headshots, certifications, W-9s, certificates of insurance, or capability statements), we store them in private storage and use them to process your requests and assemble responses. Documents marked as sensitive (such as government identification or tax forms) are segregated and never displayed in public or client-facing views.
If you make a payment or hold a subscription, billing information is processed by our payment processor (such as Stripe). We do not store full card numbers on our servers; card data is handled by the processor. We retain transaction records, invoices, and payout history as needed to operate the Service and comply with legal and tax obligations.
We use third-party service providers to operate the Service, including Twilio (SMS message delivery), Stripe (payment processing), email delivery providers, and cloud infrastructure providers. These providers process data on our behalf under their own security and privacy standards. We share only the information necessary to deliver the relevant service.
If you contact us or submit an intake by email (including email connected to your account via authorized integrations), we process the content of those communications to respond, route, and provide the Service. Email intake content is treated as intake information under this policy.
We use artificial intelligence and automated tools to assist with intake routing, document analysis, contract review, matching, recommendations, and platform improvement. AI-processed outputs are advisory and may require human review. We do not use your sensitive identity documents (such as government IDs or tax forms) for AI training.
If you use the NC Grant Engine, we process your organization profile, project information, and stated goals to match you against publicly available grant and funding opportunities. Grant opportunity data is sourced from public government databases (such as Grants.gov) and is not guaranteed to be current, complete, or accurate. NC does not guarantee eligibility, funding, or awards — eligibility depends on the funder and verified facts. AI-assisted match explanations and drafting suggestions are advisory and may require human review before submission. Your grant application workspace content is private to your organization and is not shared with funders unless you submit it.
We maintain an activity history (Living Ledger) for workforce participants recording verified onboarding, assignments, training, certifications, performance, income, and career events. Ledger entries are append-only; corrections create new entries rather than rewriting history. Community activity (posts, comments, reactions) is kept separate from verified professional history.
If you were referred to the Service or refer others, we record referral source and attribution for program purposes. Referral attribution does not grant the referrer access to your private profile or records.
When you participate in bookings or opportunities, production companies and approved clients may see a limited, client-safe projection of your profile (skills, availability, credentials) — not your full private data or contact information unless you provide it.
You may update or correct your information, withdraw SMS consent by replying STOP, and request deletion of your information subject to legal obligations. To exercise these rights, contact us using the information below.
The Service is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them.
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will update the "Last updated" date above when we do.
